 Light
represents the presence of God -- from when God
appeared to Moses in the burning bush, to the
eternal flame lit in the Temple in
Jerusalem at all times, to the Festival of
Lights -- the symbol of light is found throughout
both the Old Testament and the New. Because of
this, churches always have candles lit -- whether
it’s day or night -- to symbolize Christ, the
Uncreated Light, without whom we would be lost
in daylight as if in darkness. Candles are also
lit during baptisms, weddings, and sacraments,
at mass and during funerals.

Church, the Gospel and the Saints. In lighting a
candle you are showing a sign of your faith that
God will help you when you are in need. A candle
is also a symbol of our burning love for God and
represents our Lord’s suffering. Lighting
candles is a sign of love for Christ and shows
faith in His resurrection.

- A Holy Monk will light a candle in
your honor (or your loved one’s honor) inside the Church of
the Holy Sepulchre.
- You will receive photos of your candle

- A Certificate of Authenticity will be sent
to you via standard mail. [see sample]
- A portion of every order will be donated back to
the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Send a Prayer and Light a Candle
- Order your prayer and candle
through our secure system in the drop down menu below.
- Write your prayer in the form that
will be displayed after the ordering process.
- A Holy Monk will light your candle
and say your prayer inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
- Your prayer will also be printed out and placed
on the Stone of Anointing, where Jesus was
prepared for burial inside the Church of the
