Pope Francis is visiting the Holy Land
Pope Francis is currently making a trip to the Holy Land on a three day tour, with stops in Jerusalem. True to his namesake, a man devoted to peace, His Holiness intends to make this trip a trip of peace as well, visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulcher to mark the anniversary of a history meeting.
50 years ago, the Greek Orthodox leader, Patriarch Athenagoras, and Pope Paul VI met at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. For over 900 years, these two sects of Christianity had been at odds with one another, each side estranged from the other. At that meeting, that estrangement was broken in a place where all sides agree that the most important events in Christianity took place. While at the Church, Pope Francis will continue mending ties with the Orthodox community by meeting with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, their spiritual leader.
Local Christians are especially excited about the visit. There has been a diaspora of Christians from the Middle East from all the political and religious tensions. They are hoping that Pope Francis will give them encouragement to stay in the Holy Land and continue the long-standing Christian presence in the City of Peace.
We at Holylandprayer.com are very excited about the Pope’s visit to the Church. Having the head of the world’s Catholics come here and recognize the power and veracity of the artefacts inside this Church shows how important this place is to the world’s Christians. It is our mission to help others visit this holy place in spirit through your prayer requests.
In an honor of the Pope’s visit, Holylandprayer.com would like to offer you to send a prayer and light a candle for just $14.90 (normally $19.90).
