A prayer for provision asks God for what you and the people who depend on you actually need, and puts the worry about it in His hands. It is one of the oldest prayers in the Bible. Abraham named a mountain “The LORD Will Provide”, Israel was fed with manna one day at a time, and Jesus taught His followers to ask for “our daily bread”.
Below are short prayers for provision, prayers for your family, for uncertain work, for provision and protection, for a church or ministry, and a prayer of thanks when God has provided. There is also what “Jehovah Jireh” means, how God provided in Scripture, and the psalms people turn to. If the rent or a bill is due right now, Prayers for Financial Help is written for that moment.
How this page is labeled: prayers marked Traditional come from Scripture or long Christian use. All other prayers were written by the Holy Land Prayer team. Scripture quotations are from the NIV.

Jehovah Jireh: The Lord Will Provide
“Jehovah Jireh” is the name Abraham gave to the mountain where God provided a ram in place of his son Isaac (Genesis 22). The Hebrew, YHWH Yireh, means “the LORD will see” or “the LORD will provide”: God sees the need before we do and meets it. Christians have long read the story as pointing to Jesus, and many churches have for centuries identified Mount Moriah with the hills of Jerusalem.
How God Provided in Scripture
- Manna in the wilderness (Exodus 16). Bread came every morning, enough for that day. Anyone who tried to store extra found it spoiled. Provision in the Bible is often daily, not a stockpile.
- The widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17). In a famine, a widow shared her last flour and oil with Elijah, and the jar and jug did not run out. God provided through an act of generosity by someone who had almost nothing.
- The feeding of the five thousand (John 6). Jesus fed a crowd from a boy’s five loaves and two fish. God often starts with what is already in someone’s hands.
- The birds of the air (Matthew 6). Jesus pointed to the birds, fed by the Father, to free His followers from worry, and told them to seek God’s kingdom first.
Psalms and Bible Verses About Provision
Praying for Provision Honestly
Praying for provision is not a formula. No prayer, said a certain number of times or paired with a gift, makes money appear, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What Scripture shows is a Father who knows what His children need and usually provides through ordinary means: work, family, neighbors and the church.
So pray, and act. Tell someone you trust that you are struggling. Ask your parish or local church about help with food or bills; many run pantries and emergency funds. Accept help without shame. And when you have more than you need, become part of how God provides for someone else.

Questions People Ask
What is a prayer for provision?
A prayer asking God to supply what you and the people who depend on you need, such as food, a home and work, and to help you trust Him while you wait. The shortest is from the Lord’s Prayer: “Give us today our daily bread.”
Which psalm is for provision?
There is no single “provision psalm”, but Psalm 23 (“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing”) is the one most people pray. Psalm 34, Psalm 37:25, Psalm 104 and Psalm 145:15-16 also speak of God providing for His people.
What does God say about provision?
That He knows what His children need, that He provides for them day by day, and that they should seek His kingdom first rather than live in worry (Matthew 6:25-34). Scripture also calls people to work, to share and to care for those in need.
How do I thank God for provision?
Name what He provided, specifically, and remember it the next time you are afraid. Many people keep a short list of prayers answered. Thanks is also shown by generosity: sharing what you were given.
What does Jehovah Jireh mean?
“The LORD will provide” or “the LORD will see”. It is the name Abraham gave the mountain where God provided a ram in place of Isaac, in Genesis 22:14.
