A prayer for a sibling can be as simple as saying their name to God and asking Him to keep them. Below you will find short prayers you can say today, prayers for a brother and for a sister, prayers for protection and health, prayers for siblings who have stopped speaking, and Catholic prayers for brothers and sisters.
Brothers and sisters know each other longer than almost anyone else in life. That closeness is why their troubles weigh so heavily, and why praying for them is one of the most natural things a Christian can do.
Short Prayers for My Siblings
- Lord, bless my brothers and sisters today, and keep them close to You.
- Father, protect my brother wherever he goes today.
- Jesus, give my sister strength for everything she is carrying.
- Lord, where we have hurt each other, heal what is broken between us.
- God, thank You for the family You gave me. Help me love them well.
Prayers for My Brother
A prayer of blessing for my brother
A prayer for my brother in trouble
Lord Jesus, my brother is struggling and I cannot fix it for him. You know the whole of what he is facing, even the parts he has not told me. Stand beside him now. Give him courage to take the next right step, send good people to help him, and keep him from despair. Let him feel Your mercy before he feels anything else. Amen.
A prayer for my brother’s health
Father, I bring my brother before You in his illness. Guide the hands and minds of his doctors, ease his pain, and give him rest. Heal him if it is Your will, and whatever the days ahead hold, give him peace and keep our family united around him. Amen.
A prayer for a brother who has drifted from God
Lord, You love my brother more than I ever could. Where he has walked away from You, go after him the way the shepherd goes after the one lost sheep. Soften his heart, bring the right people and the right moment into his life, and help me to love him without judging him. Amen.

Prayers for My Sister
A prayer of blessing for my sister
A prayer for my sister in a hard season
Lord, my sister is tired and worried, and some days she carries more than anyone sees. Be her strength when hers runs out. Give her rest at night and hope in the morning. Help me to notice when she needs me and to be there without being asked. Amen.
A prayer for my sister’s health
Father of mercy, I place my sister in Your care. Touch her body with Your healing, give her doctors wisdom, and fill her with courage for every appointment and every result. Stay with her in the waiting, and let her feel our love and Yours. Amen.
A Prayer for Siblings’ Protection
Almighty God, I ask You to watch over my brothers and sisters. Protect them on the road, at work and at home. Keep them from accidents, from people who would harm them and from choices that would hurt them. Send Your angels to guard them, and bring each of them safely home. Amen.

Prayers for Siblings Who Are Not Speaking
Many people who search for a prayer for a brother or sister are praying about a rift: an argument over a parent’s care, an inheritance, a marriage, or years of small hurts. Scripture is full of siblings who fell out, and some of them were reconciled. Joseph forgave the brothers who sold him, and wept when he saw them again.
Lord, You know what went wrong between me and (name). Show me my own part in it and give me the humility to own it. Soften both our hearts. Where words would make it worse, give me patience; where a word would help, give me courage to say it. Bring us back to each other in Your time. Amen.
Father, I have forgiven my brother in my head but not yet in my heart. Help me let go of what he owes me. Heal the memory of what he said and did, and teach me to wish him well even before he is ready to make peace. Amen.

A Parent’s Prayer for Siblings to Love Each Other
Lord, You gave my children to each other as well as to me. Help them to be friends for life. Teach them to share, to forgive quickly and to defend one another. When they argue, help me to be fair. When they are grown, let them still turn to each other first. Amen.
Catholic Prayers for Siblings
Catholics often pray for their brothers and sisters by name during the prayers of the faithful at Mass, or ask for the prayers of Our Lady and the saints. Two traditional prayers work well for siblings:
Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day be at (name)’s side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Saints Benedict and Scholastica, a brother and sister (tradition holds they were twins), are often asked to pray for siblings. St. Gregory the Great tells how they spent their last evening together talking about heaven.
What the Bible Says About Brothers and Sisters
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” Psalm 133:1 (NIV)
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” Proverbs 17:17 (NIV)
“Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.” 1 John 4:21 (NIV)
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” Genesis 50:20 (NIV)
The Bible does not pretend sibling relationships are easy. Cain and Abel, Jacob and Esau, Joseph and his brothers are some of the first stories it tells. What it shows is that God works through those relationships anyway, and that reconciliation is possible even after years.
When and How to Pray for a Sibling
Pray for your siblings by name, one at a time, and pray about the specific thing each one is facing. Many people pray for their brothers and sisters on their birthdays, before a family gathering, or whenever a worry about them comes to mind. If you are estranged, praying for the other person regularly is often the first thing that softens your own heart.
Questions People Ask
Is there a Psalm to pray for a brother?
Psalm 133 is the Bible’s song about brothers living in unity, and Psalm 91 is a psalm of protection many people pray over a family member. You can read either one slowly and put your brother’s name where it fits.
Can I pray for my brother’s luck?
Christians do not pray for luck, but you can pray for exactly what you are hoping for: that God will open doors for your brother, guide his work, provide for him and protect him.
How do I pray for a sibling who does not believe?
Pray for them rather than about them. Ask God to bless them, to bring good people into their life, and to show you how to love them. Prayer is not a way to win an argument.
Should I tell my sibling I am praying for them?
If they are open to it, a short message saying you prayed for them today is usually welcome. If they are not, keep praying quietly.
Can I send a prayer for my brother or sister to Jerusalem?
Yes. Write their name and what you are asking for in the form at the top of this page, and we will place it inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Send a Prayer for Your Brother or Sister to Jerusalem
Siblings share more history than almost anyone, and sometimes more hurt. If you would like a prayer for a brother or sister, for their health, their faith or the relationship between you, carried to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, write it in the form at the top of this page. It is printed and placed in one of the chapels, prayed by a priest in English, and a candle is lit on your behalf; photographs of both are emailed to you. See how it works.
