“And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull.” Matthew 27:33
The Church of the Holy Sepulcher, also called the Church of Resurrection, is the most important and holiest church for Christians worldwide. It is even considered to be holier than the Vatican.
The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is the one and only holy place where religionists, historians, archaeologists, and scientists all agree that the purported actions did indeed take place. The location of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is not just a guess. There is factual evidence that points to this location and place as being the same spot that is mentioned in the Bible as the place of Jesus’ crucifixion, burial and resurrection.
The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is so named because it is where Jesus’ sepulcher, meaning crypt or tomb, is located. In the Aedicule of the Church there are two rooms. In the first room lies the Angel’s Stone. The Angel’s Stone is a piece of the stone that sealed the tomb of Jesus after his burial. The other room holds the tomb itself. You can see photos of the tomb and the Aedicule in our photo gallery.
“And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.” Luke 23:33
Jesus was crucified at Golgotha, or the Rock of Cavalry, around which the Church of the Holy Sepulcher was later built. A hole in the rock, where the cross was raised, can still be seen. An earthquake is said to have occurred at the time when Jesus died on the cross, the damage of which is visible in the form of a crack on the Rock of Cavalry.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.” John 11:25
Jesus was resurrected within the area now surrounded by Church of the Holy Sepulcher three days after his crucifixion. He appeared in front of Mary Magdalene in the form of an angel, shining with light.
In the church you can also see the Stone of Anointing where the earthly body of Jesus was prepared for burial. Many people believe this is the holiest of the holiest spots and choose to say their prayers here. It is also where we place our prayer requests and the prayers request we received from our dear users here at Holy Land Prayer.
Send your special prayer request to this holiest of holy places. It is an ideal way to demonstrate your faith in Christ. Let us help you make a pilgrimage to this place in spirit so that your requests may be heard by God.
